We are a group of dog owners in Nanaimo looking for change to our current animal control bylaws. We would like to see our breed specific bylaw replaced with a dangerous dog bylaw that is proven and effective. There is overwhelming evidence that the Ontario ban is simply not working and there has been no significant decrease in the number of dog bites since it was implemented in 2005. Sadly, 1000’s of family pets have died because of this ban. |

 Our News page is filled with articles and information. We are not simply a group of animal lovers and we are not a group of "pit bull huggers". All too often we see that some of the public have the wrong idea not only about these breeds of dogs but also about the type of people who live with them in their homes. We feel this is a people problem, not a dog problem. BSL and breed banning simply do not work. It has been proven time and time again. |
Bill Bruce’s program in Calgary Alberta is world renowned for being extremely effective and self-sufficient. Calgary has an amazing 90% compliance rate for dog licenses and 60% with cats. Their entire program is run on license fees and no taxpayer dollars.
Calgary’s dog attacks are at the lowest levels in 25 years despite a steady growth in population, and they have no breed specific laws. Calgary is a leader in reducing dog attacks in Canada. We want our community to be able to say the same.
